Directly west of downtown is the Montrose area, a hip, artsy, and colorful part of town known for its clubs, galleries, and shops. Here you'll find several antique and second-hand shops that await the patient shopper willing to sift through the junk to find the gems. If after browsing through these shops you're left wanting more, you'll find a grouping of similar stores on 19th Street in the Heights. In the handful of stores here -- about 12 in total -- the shop owners put out merchandise without any particular system or order or concern for display. The Heights, however, is also know for its outstanding collection of antiques and Latin American folk art: The Casa Ramírez (239 W. 19th St.), for instance, displays a panoramic collection of Mexican folk art from across the country.
