Hot Sauce Festival

Houston's well-known affection for things hot and spicy culminated in the area's first Hot Sauce Festival back in 1999. Held annually since then, the festival's siren calls attract all kinds of chili aficionados every September for a weekend of hot sauce, salsa and jelly competitions and retailing. Adults can spend the weekend tormenting their taste buds, and for kids who'd rather skip the culinary abuse, there's a fun children's area complete with a hot sauce bottle coloring contest, face painting, and a giant slide. Held at the comfortable Houston Farm and Ranch Club, the festival's main activities happen under a spacious covered arena that allows the festival to take place rain or shine. The ranch offers a beautiful backdrop of manicured lawns and trees and bountiful livestock. Hundreds of vendors show up each year to compete and to sell spicy edibles, and proceeds from the festival benefit the Stehlin Foundation for Cancer Research.
