With warm, sunny summers and T-shirt-friendly, temperate winters, Houston is a hotbed for events throughout the year. Each January, Houstonians kick off the new year with the Chevron Marathon, an event that attracts over 20,000 runners and more than 200,00 spectators.

To ensure the late-winter blues never fully settle in, Houstonians set aside three weeks early March and host the world's largest livestock and rodeo show. Hosted at Houston's famed Reliant Park, the show features an array of different event activities span over the course of three weeks ranging from an exciting calf scramble -- where four speedy calves try to escape 28 wily children in hot pursuit -- to an expansive carnival.

Houstonian's then welcome spring with the city's very own WorldFest Houston International Film Festival. Kick back in AMC's luxurious flagship theater complex and watch over 50 foreign and domestic independent films. Also held in early spring, the Houston's International Festival lets you immerse yourself in an international buffet of visual arts and cuisine. And then, with summer on the horizon, get ready for some real heat, with the world-renowned Houston Grand Prix. Catch an up-close glimpse of high-powered race cars as they rumble through Reliant Stadium's JAGFlo Speedway.

Those with a craving for heartburn are welcome to attend the city's annual Hot Sauce Festival, held every September. In the middle of fall, those with a flair for 16th-century English culture meet for seven back-to-back weekends at the Texas Renaissance Festival. Both young and old will enjoy the festivities that include magic shows, jousting, falconry exhibitions, and tasty treats. On the morning of every fourth Thursday in November, Houstonians take to the streets for an annual Thanksgiving Day Parade. It may not be as big as the Macy's Day parade, but it's still Texas sized and just as fun. Later that night, those still in a festive mood  will gather alongside Post Oak Boulevard for the Uptown Tree Lighting Ceremony to watch 500,000 lights illuminate 80 Christmas trees -- a great way to kick off the holiday season.
