The Society for the Performing Arts has a proud 40-year history as a mecca for theater-goers in the Houston art community. This organization is the largest non-profit of its kind within the Southwest and lends a stage to acclaimed artists that represent the broad gamut of performance art. Large orchestras, dance troupes, recitalists and solo performers are hosted at the SPA, and since its opening, it has sponsored more than 750 spectacular performances. To enrich young minds, this group also hosts a Family Fun series and provides other learning experiences for children.
These performances are held in Jones Hall, a magnificent venue with true theater ambience. Named after Jesse Holman Jones, a popular Houston politician and entrepeneur, the theater is housed in a towering building that takes up an entire city block. Ornate details such as eight-story columns, a dazzling grand entrance, and a travertine marble facade honor his vision and red velvet seating with golden teak walls create an interior atmosphere enjoyed by all.
