Sports

From first-class golf to Grand Prix racing, and from every major professional sport to world-class rodeo, Houston is a sports fan's paradise. Whether experiencing the great outdoors, 18 holes in the park, or joining some of the country's most passionate crowds from the grandstands, this Texas city has it all.

With massive stadiums, rowdy crowds, and winning teams, professional sports reign supreme year-round in Houston. Reviving the Downtown area, Toyota Center is home to the NBA's Rockets, the WNBA's Comets, and the AHL's Aeros. Minute Maid Park is where Major League Baseball's 2005 National Champions, the Houston Astros, play ball. Biggest of all, the NFL's newest franchise, the Houston Texans, pack the 69,000-seat Reliant Stadium. Reliant Park is also host to the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, where more than a million spectators flock to experience the world's greatest cowboy and cowgirl competitions in February and March.

Racing, both animal and human, is another great spectator sport in Houston. Sam Houston Race Park offers live thoroughbred horse racing as well as music concerts under the stars. A little outside of the city, Houston Raceway Park is one of the fastest tracks on the National Hot Rod Association's Winston Drag Racing Series tour, and Gulf Greyhound Park offers the exhilaration of live greyhound racing.

For those itching to get out in Houston's fine weather, golfers don't have to go far to experience some of the nation's finest courses. With over 160 golf courses, golf is even featured in the heart of Houston at Memorial Park Golf Course and Hermann Park Golf Course. Also in the city, miles of trails and bikeways are ideal for cycling and hiking, and canoes and kayaks take to the 52-mile-long, slow-moving waterway at Buffalo Bayou. In the Greater Clear Lake area, locals and visitors hit the water of this port city with recreations including swimming, sailing, boating, jet skiing, fishing, kayaking and canoeing.
