Memorial Park

Originally a U.S. Army training camp during World War I, Houston's Memorial Park was opened to the public in 1924 as a memorial to the soldiers who gave their lives during the war. The park features over 1,460-acres of public use lands, making it one of the most expansive inner-city parks in the United States. Visitors are welcome to try for par at the park's own 600-acre municipal golf course -- rated as one of the top municipal golf courses in the nation -- or go for a run on the park's beautiful 3-mile crushed granite jogging path. Those looking for more of a naturalist experience should check out some of the park's miles and miles of multi-use trails on the Park's south side -- including spectacular single track along the Houston bayous that will make both hikers and mountain bikers begin to salivate. Other great park amenities include many playing fields, a 155-acre arboretum and botanical garden, a fitness center, and a swimming pool.
