Houston Zoo

Nestled in the heart of Houston's famed Hermann Park, the Houston Zoo is home to over 4,500 different animals and boasts visitor attendance in excess of 1.5 million people each year. With roots reaching back to 1922, the Houston Zoo is continually updating and expanding, ensuring that each visit is unique and exciting. One of the Zoo's most notable animal residents and exhibits include an Asian elephant named Colossus, the largest elephant calf born in an accredited zoo. The zoo also features an expansive reptile and amphibian building, a water playground for children, over 230 different species of birds, a butterfly pavilion, and more. For kids with a taste for adventure, the Carruth Natural Encounters exhibit offers an up-close and hands-on experience with some of the Zoo's friendly residents. In the exhibit, visitors will find themselves face to face with tamarins, Asian small clawed otters, meerkats, and fruit bats, all in a setting very similar to their respective natural habitats.
