Music venues - Houston Hotels .com
Just as you would expect, Houston rocks with country and blues on almost every night. Blancos in River Oaks presents the best country acts in a venue small enough to watch the musicians sweat while you whoop it up on the dance floor. If blues is more your speed, try the Big Easy Social and Pleasure Club in the
Rice Village area, where locals go to hear both local favorites and big name national touring acts. But don't stop there. Jazz -- cool, hot and every temperature in between -- is on the menu at Sambuca in the old Rice Hotel
downtown, with its white-tablecloth ambience and varied, 7-day-a-week music calendar. If you want to rock and roll, get to Fitzgeralds on White Oak near the Heights, a reformed Polish dance hall where you can hear national and local bands. The more indie-minded rocker might prefer the Engine Room, downtown next to Toyota Center. And don't think that you're out of luck if you're a folkie or a bluegrass fan. McGonigels Mucky Duck offers all things acoustical at 2425 Norfolk, just off Highway 59, along with Irish music, pub food, wine and beer. And McGonigel's shows are family-friendly, so bring the kids. If swing is your thing, you can saunter down the Mercury Room and Boaka Bar's spectacularly restored 1911 staircase to join the chic, young, mixed-drink crowd for some seriously fun swing dancing.
