The Bayou Bend Collection and Gardens is a sophisticated, artistic landmark in the River Oaks residential neighborhood of Houston. Donated to the Museum of Fine Arts in 1957, this stately home was built by architect John F. Staub built between 1927 and 1928 for the renowned Houston philanthropist and collector Ima Hogg. The collection features several thousand pieces of mostly American decorative arts, dating from 1620 through 1870. Surrounding the 28-room mansion is a remarkable 1920s-styled landscape that features English, Italian, rock and butterfly gardens. Open to the public, Bayou Bend requires self-guided and guided tours to be scheduled in advance.
